Black History Month at B3

Black History Month at B3Living

Friday, 23 October 2026

This October, we are recognising Black History Month, a time to celebrate, recognise, and learn about the impact of Black heritage and culture.

Last week, local favourites Khaya Kitchen cooked us a delicious traditional African Caribbean lunch, followed by an interactive talk and Q&A with Mayor Patsy Spears.

We have a long relationship with Patsy and welcomed her to share her story. She spoke about moving to England from Trinidad and Tobago, reflected on the Windrush generation, and shared stories from her time as a midwife.

You'll often spot Patsy at B3Living community events, including our 20th Anniversary celebrations in April 2026. Community has always been at the heart of her life and work, from her career in local hospitals to serving as a councillor, and now in her second term as Mayor of the Borough of Broxbourne.

At the end of the event, Patsy shared a poem with us about Trinidad and Tobago,
titled I Come From Islands. She invited us to close our eyes and imagine the island setting as she read aloud to the group.
